Spaghetti bolognaise is a classic Italian dish that consists of spaghetti tossed in a rich and flavorful bolognaise sauce made with ground beef, tomatoes, and herbs. Ingredients
- 500g minced beef
- 1 large onion
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 2 medium carrots
- 2 stalks of celery
- 1 can of diced tomatoes
- 1 cup of red wine
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 500g spaghetti
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
Preparation
- Step 1: Chop the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery into small pieces
- Step 2: Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat and sauté the chopped vegetables until they are softened
- Step 3: Add the minced beef to the pot and cook until it is browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks
- Step 4: Add the tomato paste to the pot and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly
- Step 5: Add the diced tomatoes, red wine, beef broth, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the pot and stir to combine
- Step 6: Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally
- Step 7: While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti in a large pot of boiling salted water until it is al dente
- Step 8: Drain the spaghetti and return it to the pot, tossing it with the bolognaise sauce and grated parmesan cheese
- Step 9: Serve the spaghetti bolognaise hot, garnished with additional parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves if desired
Chef’s Tip: To get the best flavor out of your bolognaise sauce, make sure to cook it for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. You can also make the sauce ahead of time and refrigerate or freeze it for later use.
